JAKARTA – A “productive space” at Kampung Bayam Madani keeps the local economy going in urban North Jakarta. This “space” refers to a small stretch of land where the local farmer group grows crops and vegetables, raises fish, and runs collaborative initiatives.
But what they’re doing is more than producing, leader Muhammad Furqon said. Kampung Bayam Madani is also about preserving living spaces.
“Nature and humanity must go hand in hand. As farmers, we have a crucial role in protecting our environment and local ecosystems,” he emphasized. “Thanks to the previous grant [from Korindo Foundation], we were able to build another fish pond and finish our communal kitchen. We got to grow this place little by little, improve our harvests, and deliver benefits to the wider community.”
While problems remain with farm maintenance and produce distribution, the group has better support in place — through help from multiple parties.

Their need for distribution infrastructure has especially been met at the second-phase grant awarding ceremony of Korindo Foundation’s Green Sponsorship program on Wednesday (9/9/2026).
“In this second funding round, we’re going to use the money to buy a three-wheeler. This will help us move our produce to retail outlets and ease distribution,” Furqon said, adding that the grant would give his team more financial room to focus on land management and operational expansion.
Green Sponsorship is a two-phase funding initiative that advances to the next phase only after beneficiaries demonstrate responsible use of funds, said Korindo Foundation’s General Manager Setiyono.
“Over the past year, we’ve seen tremendous enthusiasm from all of you here, along with really good handling of resources. That being said, we are thrilled to proceed with the second phase of Green Sponsorship.”
For the collective, activities like fish farming, plant cultivation, and community kitchen are part of efforts to build an impactful green space. The second-phase grant is further proof of Kampung Bayam Madani’s strong commitment to safeguarding and expanding their living environment. (PR)
