BOGOR – Once a desolate, trash-filled land, the Pondok Rajeg landfill now dons a new face as a lush urban park. This transformation proves how waste-contaminated ecosystems still hold potential for recovery.
But turning a dumping ground into a natural outdoor area is just one small part of a bigger work. The next step is ensuring the trees at the site remain thriving and useful for surrounding communities.
Recently, El Niño-induced dry weather conditions have become a challenge. Intense heat and limited water supply have caused several parts of the park to suffer from drought stress, thus increasing the need for more intensive care.
To prevent further damage to the plants, Korindo Foundation has teamed up with PT Aspex Kumbong to provide support. A water tanker has been regularly dispatched to the City Forest for watering purposes.

Site staff are using the supply to irrigate and maintain the trees, especially those needing more water during droughts.
“We typically water twice a day, in the mornings and afternoons. But these days, El Niño and drier weather are making things hard, and we’ve seen a couple of dehydrated trees as well,” said Iyom, one of the site team members. “We’re working to ensure proper growth through regular watering and care.”
Maintenance plays a huge role in the area’s recovery from environmental degradation brought by years of land pollution. Despite weather-related issues, the Foundation and PT Aspex Kumbong remain committed to keeping the forest hydrated. Water supply support, scheduled watering, and tree monitoring all form part of an ongoing effort to preserve its function as a community green space.
